"Wall" Art: Hasta la Visa Baby
Borders and walls have been topics of political discussion this year, and art often acts as society's mirror. Hasta la Visa Baby (yes, visa is intentional) at the Silver Meteor Gallery in Ybor City is more than an art exhibition, with a series of events exploring these themes. "Freedom of Movement" is a poster exhibition from Poster for Tomorrow taking on the experiences of immigrants and refugees. "Intent to Take Off" is a performance-based collaboration between American artist Vincent Kral and Canadian artist Monique Blom. A soundscape created by Matt Cowley will be playing to create some extra atmosphere. Viewing hours are 5-8 p.m. Thursday through Friday with a closing reception from 5-9 p.m. Saturday. During that event, a series of films on movement and immigration, dubbed "America, in Black and Whitewash," will begin at 6 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by "Border/Frontera/Teorainn," a poetry reading from a variety of authors on borders in English and Spanish. Free. 2213 E Sixth Ave., Ybor City.
